We know what your days look like right now.

You check your phone between meetings, just in case. You call home on your lunch break and hold your breath until they answer. You’ve used up vacation days, canceled plans and told everyone you’re fine.

Maybe it’s your mom, who can’t be left alone anymore. Your husband, whose memory is slipping. Your brother, still finding his feet after a stroke. Your grown daughter living with MS. Your aunt, who has no one else.

Whoever it is, you love them, and you’re exhausted. Both of those things are true. You’re not failing them by needing help.

Gilcrest gives them a place where they’re safe, known and glad to be. And it gives you your days back.

What adult day care is

A safe, supervised place for adults who shouldn’t be alone all day: older adults, and adults living with memory loss, chronic illness or a disability. They get meals, nursing, personal care and friends during the day, then sleep in their own bed at night.

How it works

From your driveway at 7:00 to your door before supper.

Not a day of being watched. A day of being looked after, and looked forward to.

The ride is part of the care.

Getting there is where most care plans fall apart. Who drives when you’re stuck at work? When your car’s in the shop? When you just can’t do one more thing today?

At Gilcrest, you don’t have to figure that out. Our own drivers, in our own wheelchair-accessible vans, pick up and drop off at your door. They’re run by the same family that runs the center, and they know our members by name. The same vans can take your loved one to the doctor, the pharmacy or the grocery store, Monday to Saturday, across Wayne, Medina, Stark and Summit counties.

Good care shouldn’t cost you your savings.

In Ohio, a day of adult day health care runs about $83, compared with $302 for a shared nursing home room. Many of our families pay little or nothing through Medicaid waiver, PASSPORT or MyCare Ohio.

You don’t have to untangle the paperwork on your own. Our billing team checks your coverage, free, before you commit to anything.

Choosing adult day isn’t giving up on them.

It’s natural to feel guilty, like you’re handing off someone you promised to take care of. But sitting home alone all day isn’t the same as being cared for.

Here, they get friends, purpose and a reason to get dressed in the morning. And you get to go back to being their daughter, their husband, their sister or their friend, not only their caregiver.

“I like going to Gilcrest because I can interact with other people instead of sitting at home and being depressed. We play bingo and do crafts, eat together, laugh and cry together and make good friends.”
Ramona G., Gilcrest member

Worried they’ll say no? That’s normal.

Nobody loves the idea of “day care” at first. So don’t decide anything yet. Come visit together, stay for lunch, and let them meet the people at their table. You can ride along on the first day if it helps.

The fear often fades once someone is saving them a seat.

In their words

“If you are looking for a daycare to send a loved one to, you cannot go wrong with the Gilcrest Center.”

“The aides and director treat us with kindness and compassion.”

The day we bought a blimp ride.

In 2019, one of our members had a dying wish: to ride in the Goodyear blimp. Our owner, Annette Saeger, won the ride at a Red Cross auction and gave it to him.

That’s the family who will be looking after the person you love.

Five questions to ask any center, including us.

  1. Do you provide the ride, or does someone else?
  2. Is a nurse on site every day?
  3. Which Ohio programs are you approved for?
  4. Who owns the center, and are they there?
  5. Can we try a day before we decide?

Ask every center you visit. You deserve good answers, and so does the person you love.

Come see us. Have lunch with us.

A visit takes about an hour. Bring your questions, and bring the person you’re caring for. We’ll check your coverage while you’re here.
